Odin and Olive: The story of 2 rambunctious kittens

Hi everyone, it’s Odin and Olive, we are Brooklynn’s cats. We have taken over her computer today to tell you a little bit about us.

Starting at the beginning the Lammers Family adopted us in 2021 from Chinook Arch Bengal where we left our Mother, Father and siblings to go to a new home in Chestermere, AB. When we got to our new home we were put into the basement where we had food, water, toys and a HUGE cat tree just for us. It was scary at first but the more we saw our new family the less scary it became. In the past two years we have grown and started to develop our own fursonalities, I (Odin) have become quite vocal about my wants and my favorite place in our house is the pantry and if I persistent enough I will almost always get my way,( Mom has a soft spot for us and always makes sure that we get our treaties). Olive on the other hand is a much more quiet when she wants to be, but she is demanding but not when it comes to treats, Brooklynn has become Olives person and she is the thing that she wants. I (Olive) have made it clear to everyone that I have a favorite and I ain’t shy to tell you, Brooklynn and I have developed a morning routine that includes me being an alarm clock, getting brushed and brushing myself, crying to be picked up, and then by being carried up the stairs by Brooklynn to go get breakfast, when mom gets back from the gym it is my time to exercise on my cat wheel where you have to watch me closely so that I know I am doing a good job.

Olive on Left, Odin on Right

Some of our favorite activity whenever it is nice out we like to go outside and burn off the access energy we had from the day, we get to play chase together and lay in the nice warm sun on sunny days and play in the snow on snow days. After all that running around the fireplace is our next stop, no matter the weather outside we will be sitting on the ledge of the fireplace soaking up the heat from the fire or the sun. They make jokes that Olives favorite show is the fireplace and I think that we would both agree that it is our favorite spot, right in front of the big window letting all the sunlight in. Our family does anything to make sure we are happy and healthy and we couldn’t be happier with our furever family.

Constructing a Good Story

Creating a good story starts with the planning, when starting to brainstorm to write a story there are many things you have to think about and little details you need to include to make your story a good one. When writing a story there is a lot of details that can set a good story apart from a bad one.

Stories have been being told since the beginning of time in many different ways, from campfire stories to a novel to drawings on a cave wall, they are all stories that have been told to people to provide knowledge, entertainment, or life skills. Stories are the original way to pass knowledge around and if we didn’t have stories we wouldn’t have the knowledge about the past that we do today. The structure is the biggest part of making a good story, if you don’t have memorable characters, a clear theme, story structure, a memorable ending and something that evokes emotions. This formula for a story can put you on the track to writing a good memorable story that people will enjoy and recommend to their friends.

Whenever I am reading a story these five main points are what makes me think that the story is good. When a writer is able to make the story relatable and full of emotion it has the ability to pull a reader in and get them to keep reading. When a novel is emotionless or gives no details into the story you can’t visualize the world you are reading about, imagine reading Harry Potter without knowing Harrys home life or knowing what Hogwarts is and trying to read through the series without the details that makes Harry Potter the magic world that it is known to be. People wouldn’t have made it through the first book much less the series if they didn’t have detail or evoked emotion.

Plans Change

Having a set plan for my day helps keep me accountable for the things I need to do throughout my day to maximize my time.

A lot of influencers will do videos of ‘a day in my life’ but they don’t show you all the behind the scenes of what actually happens. Influencers try and make there life look perfect and planned out but a lot of the time plans change and you need to figure something else to do with your time, especially at work. When I started planning out my week I wanted to go to a show home near by and show off the plumbing work that we had done, I have been feeling under the weather so myself and the sales person agreed that I would come in this week during office hours to come in and take pictures. When I arrived at the address and walked up to the door I found that it was still closed and no one was there.

Once I figured that no one was there I called the number. No answer. I drive away. I get back to the shop put all my things away and sit down to find something else to do when my phone vibrates, its the sales woman saying that she is on her way and I can come back, as of right now it is cold out and the roads are icy which is causing people to forget how to drive in the snow, so I stay at the shop and brainstorm my next project. Currently we are making onboarding videos for our hiring process and I have a script made and all the materials so lets go. This video is to help our new apprentices learn to solder to make showers and taps, for some people it can be a tough skill to learn but I am good at working with my hands so I picked up the skill fairly quickly. All of the site supervisors make jokes about me teaching the new apprentices so I might as well make a video on how I do it.

My Twitter story didn’t go the way that I had planned so when it came to continuing my story I had to brainstorm a little bit to figure out what I could fill my time with since there was conflict with my original plan.

The beginning starts with the idea of going on a quest (me going to a show home) but soon after conflict arises ( no one being there), during this conflict a solution is needed. When returning from the quest solutions are presented (receiving a text message from the sales person) but the decision if the journey back is worth it appears. Finally a decision is reached that even though the adventure would be worth it the risk of the journey is far too great. Now that a decision has been reached by the main character they must find another small adventure to occupy her day with. After brainstorming the main character finds a new adventure, soldering.

The character changes the path that they were on and changed the outcome of their day, when changing the adventure you open up new doors of what you know about the characters and give the readers insight into the thought process and how it effects them. Changing the adventure also shows how that character deals with change and their reaction to having to do something new. Even though there was a change in plans the character still persevered and completed the journey successfully even with all the bumps in the road. They were able to redesign their day to fit the circumstances. Most readers will feel that this is a relatable story because in daily life nothing ever goes completely as planned, there is always a fork in the road that causes you to change paths and follow something else even though you had a set plan.

In conclusion I wanted to make my Twitter thread relatable in the sense that everyone always has a plan for their day but one little thing can change everything, including what path you may follow the day coming. Life is imperfect and influencers try and romanticize the idea of a perfectly planned life, but for most people that is a unobtainable standard based on the lifestyle you live, making a perfect life is their job, it isn’t yours.

Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult

“Just so you know, when they say, “Once upon a time”…they’re lying.

It’s not once upon a time. It’s not even twice upon a time. It’s hundreds of times, over and over, every time someone opens up the pages of this dusty old book.”

-Oliver (Between the Lines Character)

“Between the Lines” by Jodi Picoult was the book that sparked my interest in reading. I originally read this book in junior high and it is still one of my favorites, this book connects with the audience no matter the age group. If you haven’t read this book or anything by Jodi Picoult highly suggest her books. I have reread this book more times than I can count and it evokes emotion in me every time. This is one of two books in the series and after reading the first one you will be wanting more the second book is “Off the Page by Jodi Picoult”

In the novel “Between the Lines” Picoult emerges the reader in a fantasy world in ways no author has done before. She takes the idea of being so emerged in a book you feel a part of the story and makes it a reality, the main character Delilah is a school loner and grows attached to books, specifically a fairytale book that she finds in her school library. This book feels different than any other and Delilah keeps taking the book out of the library, something draws her to it. Over time she starts noticing things being different every time she opened the book and realizes that all the characters are alive! Once the characters have revealed themselves to Delilah they start to form relationships with each other, especially Oliver the Prince in the fairytale. Delilah and Oliver end up becoming close and discussing their hopes and dreams, as she bonds with these characters she learns that Oliver is nothing like a prince and has other ambitions that don’t include being a prince trapped in a fairytale book, this drives the two of them to create a plan to get Oliver out of the book. This novel evokes so much emotion that whenever the characters succeed you feel joy and when they fail you are disappointed. They face many challenges along the way may it be a dragon with braces or finding our way out of a fairytale you will feel for the characters and grow a connection.

Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer

Through out the book “Between the Lines” by Jodi Picoult, Picoult analyzes the idea of choosing your own destiny by showing that the path you are on doesn’t need to be your end path, you can change your path and follow happiness. Oliver was forced into the life of repeating is life over and over by slaying dragons and doing princely duties and it wasn’t what made him happy. Delilah and Oliver try to get Oliver out of the book and face many challenges along the way. This book made me realize that the path of life isn’t just one path, you may need to change course and follow a different path, and there is nothing wrong with doing that. Life throws challenges at us everyday, the way you determine how to deal with the problem and the outcome can change the path that you were on. Most importantly you need to follow what your heart says to do.

Book lovers in particular are likely to get a kick out of the blurring of the lines between character and reader, fact and fiction. Periodic illustrations from the fairy tale Between the Lines function well as reminders of Oliver’s fictive “reality,” but others, too closely resembling clip art, are distracting and out of place. Fizzy fairy-tale fun.
